I had the brakes on the front off the car done for the mot but the brake warning lights on the dash stayed on so someone took the clocks out to see why the lights where still on cudnt find the problem so put the clocks back in i went to start the car after n the battery had gone dead so i replaced the battery now the car starts n then cuts out n theres an orange flashing car with a key on the dash I was adviced the key needed re programming so I had an auto locksmith out this morning he spent 2 hours trying to sort it out but all his machine kept saying was it cant communicate with the ECU he tried lots of things including factory resetting but theres no fault codes stored on the ECU but that did nothing he sed he got a pin number 0350 I think e said from the immobiliser what can I do now any ideas im stuck?

Thankyou for taking time to read this n I hope it makes sence

I'm afraid you've had an idiot working on your car. There are a few reasons why the brake (pad) warning light would remain on the dash after the brakes were 'done'. I wouldn't start looking behind the dash first though...

Can you confirm the pad wear indicator was showing (O) or the fluid level - which is a red symbol? If pad wear, all of the wear sensors and wiring have to be complete, good continuity and free from earths for the light to extinguish. Therefore the rear pads (and therefore sensors) may have worn through, the wires from the pug coupler in the wheel-arch may look intact but have broken inner cores through work hardening, the plug couplers may be contaminated or the wires crushed.

If it is the red brake symbol, there isn't enough brake fluid in the reservoir - which must be checked out why straight away.

Regarding your flashing car symbol; that is the immobiliser. When the dash has been removed from the car it has upset the immobiliser (the immobiliser is incorporated in the dash). Also, if his machine can't communicate with the immobiliser, this is because the diagnostic K-Line for the ECU goes through the dash (becoming the W-Line) and this is how the immobiliser talks to the ECU. I have a feeling from what you have said that there is a plug coupler on the rear of the dash that has not been connected properly when the dash was re-installed.

Unless the dash was removed and reconnected without disconnecting the vehicle battery (again a very foolish thing to do) all of the immobiliser and key codes should not have been affected.

Another possibility for the brake pad warning might be if non genuine pads were used that didn't have wear sensors.
