    Hi guys,

Quick question on the A6 optical bus.

Do the devices on it need power to maintain the fibre bus functionality?

Reason for asking is I have errors in my VCDS logs showing intermittent open circuit:

    00384 - Optical Databus
    011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent

Now originally I was thinking that as my Fiscon bluetooth module was always mentioned alongside this, it was likely this was the cause. I have temporarily disconnected it and all associated wiring to rule it out.

Now in the past I had issues with battery discharge, and now run the Bose AMP and tuner module in the boot via an ignition switched relay. That means when I turn the engine off the power to those cuts cut straight away, so it could be if you take power off a device it breaks the fibre circuit and is causing this error. Also could mean that if power is needed it could be an electical issue or a problem with fibre wiring or device.

I will be running the VCDS fibre test later when my car is home to see what that comes up with (should have done this before removing phone module!).

Recently I've had 2 instances of the MMI just not working, any device like NAV, tuner, DAB, CD etc all show as not installed. Simple, engine off and on and all is well but if something is playing up I'd like to nail it before the winter sets in.

    Thanks guys.

What time and date are on the error Andy?

If something was unplugged on the loop the MMI wouldn't even switch on.

    Hi Chris,

That is the thing, you are spot on about if there is a break it won't power on which is making me suspect it could be the mod I put in, and it's to be expected. However I was also getting phone module errors:

Address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 4F0-910-468.lbl
    Control Module Part Number: 4F0 910 468 A HW: 4F0 907 468 B

Hoping the VCDS test will put my mind at rest, will then reconnect Fiscon and repeat. Can easily take out my relay mod as another variable and leave it all a while to see.

Never lost of had any MMI issues when car running, only twice it was off when I started up car, and when I tried to put radio on it powers up but says nothing installed, not even the car bit for service indicator etc.

Keep you posted, hoping something simple.

I think I mentioned this before but when I had th fiscon in my a3 even tho I followed the coding, it still showed it as not connected and showed errors in the can gateway and telephone module.

You'll probably get a telephone error when running the optical test tho. Are you running 5570?

    Hey Chris,

You were right, all good bar telephone not found, if it's unplugged and still coded in that could happen !! Quite pleased as thinking it's to be expected. Yes running 5570. Will leave a week or so and see how it goes. Just rechecked fault log on CAN gateway, optical error again listed 2 mins after I saved last logs which is about the time I turned it all off.

    Thanks again.

    Andy
