Alright so basically I bought a car about two months ago

    Audi a4 2004 1.9tdi red I 160,000miles

Every so often only when the engine was warm it would cut out on start up..some smoke comes out of the dipstick I'm assuming this is some blow by.the fuel filter was also completely blocked so I had that replaced..only after doing that now the car starts fine but can't get any revs with my foot fully on the acceleration, just for a few seconds on start up and then I can get them and the car runs perfect.except still very Smokey when I hit the gas.I brought the car to a mechanic who changed the air flow meter and cleaned the egr valve, was less Smokey for about a day and still has the starting problem when the engine is hot(mostly notice it when doing Chinese deliveries),also the delay is still there mechanic reckons this is because he can see on his machine it was remapped..and caused a delay but I think its worse of a delay when its warm...

I have a cracked o ring on one of the pipes coming from the turbo I'm getting done this week...

Disaster of a car! Lesson learned for next time I buy..

But has anyone had a similar experience or know what it could be? Car is full of power once its started..boost leak? Heat sensor? Vapour lock? Remapping problem? HELP

It sounds as though you have a few irritating jobs to do, but on the plus side, if it runs and pulls well when it does go, there should be some hope that you may end up with a decent motor.

    welcome to the forum.
now, tell me something. you have just bought a 10 year old car with 160k on the clock and its got a small problem yet you call it a disaster of a car ? why ?
ok, so your mechanic won't be able to tell if its mapped or not, or at least he is very unlikely to be able to tell.
what fault codes has he found when he scanned it. post these up and lets see whats wrong ?

I agree with Zollaf get a scan done with VCDS or VAS and post the results on here. There's very little wrong with your car but no point in randomly changing until we see what the scan says

Thanks all for the great response..the only thing that shows on the diagnosis machine is and engine mount..it solenoid mount or somethin mechanic says its likely not to be the problem..
Said when he plugged it into his vw diagnosis machine he could see the settings were changed so thinks it was remapped or something?
I called it a disaster just cause it seemed to me like it was..is blow by a big deal? Actually was going to sell it cheap, feel a bit better about it now.

There's no VAG diagnostic computer that reads maps that I know of. The timing may be a little off. Get a scan and a list of codes. Don't worry about the engine mount. look at this page Ross-Tech: VCDS: DTC Comparison OBD scanners are poor at picking up faults on VAG cars. There's a map of guys that will scan your car for the price of a few beers (from Lidl not a bar) VWAF User Location Map - VCDS - Google Maps

What do you mean by blow-by? Is it the crankcase? What temperature is showing on the gauge?

Post the results on here so the pointy heads can analyse them. You might ask A6_Chris to contact someone with VCDS as you've not got enough posts
