According to the internet, the left rear rocker cover bolt is a PITA to access. I do know that the belt cover is held on with two clips either side, a long flathead screwdriver should be sufficient.

Might be wise to replace the rocker gasket too, depending on where you buy it from you may be told you have to buy a new rocker cover. The gasket can be purchased on its own though.
Im tempted to order the part from VW themselves just to make sure I get the right part...I have a feeling I'm going to have to dismantle the pipework at the back to get to the rear bolts but Ive persuaded my dad to give me a hand as he was more used to stripping down old oily engines back in his day and I'm more used to electrical. He oddly enough said the same thing about the gasket to replace it at the same time.

Thanks for all your help its most appreciated. Ill update once Ive managed to do the work.

Just tried to check the part with VW and they wont issue part numbers but their price was £61 inc. where as that site is £66 including the gasket.......

    Good luck with the fix!

If you have a chance, take some photos of the process, you'd help a lot of people in return as there doesn't appear to be a detailed Golf/Bora DIY out there that I could find.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

Thanks. I definately will, the closest Ive been able to find was a video of someone taking out an injector in a passat engine...

    *Update

Ive now fixed the main issue replacing the injector wiring loom sorted that issue. Now the problem I have is that I cant get the rocker cover to seal even with replacing the gasket it is still weaping a bit of oil from the rear right of the rocker. We have checked that the seal does close on all areas and it appears to so any suggestions welcome. We've reseated it a couple of times at first it was pouring but now its down to a very minor dribble but enough to see a few blobs on the floor.

    Good work on the loom.

Cheap(er) gaskets can and often do leak.

Which one did you get in the end?

It was from eurocarparts. Is a genuine vw one less likely to leak?

    ECP are usually quite good.

The trouble with the genuine one is, depending on the part number, it's not available to buy on its own. Might be worth a try though, they're fairly inexpensive.

I bought the more expensive one off them as they had two. I took lots of pictures as well so will be putting together a fix guide when Im home next week. After the practise we can take it apart and put it together in under an hour.
