Hi, I need to replace the shock absorbers on my Polo. Following the Haynes manual, I removed the driveshaft nut, anti-roll bar link, undid the lower arm ball joint and steering track rod ball joint. The driveshaft is very tight in the hub. Tried hitting it using a metal rod against it but no luck - didn't want to damage the shaft end. I am thinking of buying a puller (Clarke CHT240). Will I then have problems putting the shaft back in the hub and have to buy a driveshaft puller? They (Laser 4847) seem to cost £150 and DIY soon becomes uneconomical as my local garage has estimated £130 per side. Any advice will be gratefully received.

it can be done much more easily that this.

Basically undo the 3 13mm nuts on the lower suspension arm, and then the 36mm hub nut in the centre of the wheel. This will allow the whole suspension leg to pivot outwards.

You then need to undo the lower shock fixing bolt think 16mm nut and then a hex key for the bolt itself.

Lastly undo the 3 13mm bolts holding the top of the shock to the tower and it should all come out in 1 piece.

    Hope this helps
