Rear passenger door won't open

Hi Guys,

My rear passenger door has stopped opening from the outside. I can open the door from the inside but not from the outside. Having scanned through some previous posts I applied the fix of holding the interior handle in the open position and then pulling on the exterior handle. This then allows the door to open from the outside.

If I lock the car then unlock the doors via the key the door does not open from the outside.

Any ideas what it could be ?

Have you been fiddling in the MMI settings for Central Locking?

I'd be getting a fault code scan done.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't been messing with the mmi. Prob will need a fault scan just wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

A fault scan should pinpoint the problem, have a look here - VWAF User Location Map - VCDS - Google Maps and if theres anyone near let me know, and I will bring their attention to this thread to contact you as you're halfway to having 10 posts for PM.

I have a Passat with a similar problem. One of the rear doors is firmly locked but before it gave up the symptoms were pretty much as you describe. I've been told it's a knackered solenoid and about £200 to put right, if you get it done before it properly gives up the ghost like mine has done. After it's given up the ghost, as mine has done, you need to get into the door to unlock it before it can be sorted and the final bill could end up being rather more. My other rear door is starting to show the same signs so will be getting it looked at sharpish! Different car I know but hopefully that helps a little.

this happened to me, though i had child locks on so it made it difficuilt to do...i had to put the window down and try it, luckily it worked, never happened again.

This happened to my last B8 and the door could not be opened at all. Door trim had to be cut from the inside to get at the mechanism to open the door. Luckly the car was under warranty. The whole door trim had to be replaced once the problem was fixed. Could be expensive i guess if that is needed.

Thanks for your comments guys. The culprit was a dodgy door lock catch. Part number (8k0839015) and cost £93 from audi.

Got to it fitted by a mate.
