Hi everyone newbie here and about to be first time owner of a pure white manual GT 1.4 ACT (can't wait...)

Just wanted your input with regards to break in period and oil changes

certain forums advocate for the first 1000 miles to cycle through gears and rpm up to 3500 with frequent engine breaking to set piston rings properly
and reduce future oil consumption followed by another 1k to engine speeds up to engines max rev,
others also suggest an interim oil change at 5000 miles to rid the engine from the oil during the break in period
which contains metal debris thus reducing future engine wear/ damage from these particles.

Whats your opinion / experience / practice????? Your input would be very valuable to me as I have never owned a turbo engined car before...

Personally I follow the advice in the manual which is to take it easy during the first 1,000 km and avoid high rev's. VW know their engines better than anyone so I'd take their word over some forum 'expert'. Not petrol I know but with my TDi on the MK6 I was getting better mpg following the run-in period and I only needed to add 200ml of oil the whole time I owned it. Cars can go a lot longer between oil changes with the quality of oil now used.
Current Car: Golf GT 2.0TDi 150PS MK7, 5DR, Deep Black
