    Hi all
I've noticed over the last couple of days my car seems to take a long time to heat up to 90. Once there it stays there and doesn't fluctuate. It never used to do this, it would warm up within 5 mins. It now takes 20+ mins to reach 90 doing a 8-9 mile trip of 30-40mph roads
    is this right?
could it just be because the mornings are getting colder now?
I changed the pollen filter at weekend because when it rained I couldn't de mist the windows and the filter was filthy, could this of been causing the engine extra effort to get cold air in there fore heat up quicker?
also had the clutch and fly wheel done so could they have damaged something when doing this?
or is it completely normal and I'm just being over critical
    cheers
    john

Its the cold mornings doing it, with the recent drop from an average of 22 deg down to about 11 deg. Unfortunately its just down to physics....it'l take even longer when the temperatures plummet later in the winter. If its a diesel car itl take longer than a petrol car too as they are more efficient. Nothing to do with the recent work you've had done.

Also if you want to clear your windscreen quicker, turn on the AC. People seem to forget that the AC dehumidifies the air coming in .

As Andrew says, the colder it is outside the longer the car will take to warm up

    thanks for this.
Windows clear fine with new pollen filter in. With the old one I had to keep ac on all the time to keep clear
Good to know I'm just being over critical with the heating up. And yeah it is a diesel.
    Cheers

Last year when we had -12 or something I drove about 30 miles and my A3 didnt even get upto temperature once in fact when I stopped in traffic for a minute or two the gauge actually went down was kind of worrying really. I've noticed my A4 taking longer to warm up recently, like everyone else says its just the colder mornings unfortunately.

Its interesting the difference in cars - whilst my A4 has been in the body shop this week, I have had a loan of a mate's diesel Mondeo; it warms up much quicker than the A4, despite having the same size engine, and being a bit more efficient (although in fairness, the Mondeo is a hatchback).

I think its a lot to do with stats being inconsistent. They don't seem to have changed and are still basic. It used to be necessary to change to a winter stat about this time to help warm up and I once had a 50s ford that had a roll up rad muffler which helped but you had to remember to stop and roll it down when the engine was hot and there was no temp guage!
