I'm confused about the oil pump problems though. Can someone please explain. Things I know for sure are:-
VIN ends 7E176363
Engine number is BKP 216524.
oil pump is gear ddrive oil and filter are new.
pickup pipe is clean.could my oil pump be a dodgy one?

VW seem to have had a faulty batch of oil pump drive shafts which round off and stop driving the oil pump, giving low oil pressure. If you are really really lucky, just changing the shaft will fix things.

Scan done and didn't reveal anything untoward but would only identify anything electrically connected

How would a faulty oil pump or drive shaft show?

Only way to check is to drop the sump and look. An external oil pressure test is possible but risks causing more damage if the oil pump has lost drive.

Right guys. Firstly, a big thanks to Mark for popping over and connecting VCDS which showed nothing conclusive on the oil pressure problem. Secondly, a big thanks to everyone for their help and comments, because of which, I still have a working engine. Lastly, I had my nieces husband pop by about an hour after Mark left, who did a pressure test (just what needed to be done). This showed no pressure for the oil, so we're currently pricing up a replacement.
