    Hey guys,

Thinking to change my tiptronic oil and filter soon. History is when I got the car a while back it had 38k on it. At 40 I had a local indi change the fluid, along with full service and spark plugs/air filter etc. Thought it best to start from a good known point.

Thinking back now I have no idea what was done, pretty sure it was just drain out what they could and refill, not the better option of sump pan off, clean magnets, change filter etc.

With that in mind, and planning on keeping car a while I'm thinking to get a service kit and change the fluid and filter properly. Would use the proper fluid, and buy an oil filler tool. Depending on how much comes out and on my mileage would then repeat just an oil change in another 20k or so and alternate with full service every other time to keep it in good order.

My question is whether this is sensible or overkill? The full service parts are about £160, tool would be about £80 and then a bit of time. This is far cheaper than I paid the indi, and I get to ensure it's done properly without undue travel to a workshop etc.

If I go for it I would of course take notes and pics along the way to help others.

Personally prefer to look after my cars well, rather than stretch things to the max and worry about things going wrong on me.

    Hi Andy,

Like you I had an indi do my gearbox oil change, was supposed to be filter plus software update as this was specified at booking.

Later I found out no filter done, was also told oil fill was what had been lost due to what work was done to car, so no real idea on quantity.

Software update was not also done and told they couldn't do plus they said as box behaving fine they really not interested in doing more to it.

TBH gearbox behaving better/well afterwards, even if for a period I had that oil leak from bell housing.

What was also odd was oil was a golden colour instead of say green/blue as genuine VAG oil would be which I was told would be used.

If other costs had not happened I'd have perhaps got what I wanted done in first place by another place this year but now perhaps in another 15k or year if I have not sold car will do DIY or go to where MarkTM went.

A8 Tech in a post states 8L is change even if full fill is 9L and if MarkTM got 7L done from indi I'd be chuffed with that.

Will be watching out for your write up and watching thread for info .
