Its been a while since i was here, so i'll say hello first! Hello!

I need to replace the rear discs and pads on my car, and i got as far as removing the caliper, but cant undo the caliper bracket; its on with a spline socket; does anyone know which one i need to buy please? what size etc. My last car had 19mm hex heads, but the B6 has these spline headed bolts, i dont think its a torx, but then, i havent been under the car to get a good look at it.
Re; winding back and then winding forward the caliper; i know how to wind them back with the car battery method, but to reset the same way; is it best to refit the caliper in place before i wind them back up? (to prevent the piston from being pushed completely out of the caliper - or is the operation not as crude as that?). hope that makes sense!

Hi there, the Allen bolts i was not able to get the right size as the area around it is fairly inaccessible, lots of stuff in the way, it might be a torX, because i couldn't get my largest Allen key to work in it, it just spun. I would suggest a chat with a mechanic at a local VW dealer of garage, dont be fobbed off, by them, try other places; I've gotten some good info this way!

Sorry i cant help much more than that. I eventually took my car to the garage across the road from where i live, and he changed the disks and pads for me.

    regards, mark.
