    Hi,

    I have a 2006 A6 multi tronic 2.0l diesel. The symptoms I have are:

The engine had erratic idling for sometime now. A few days ago the gearbox got stuck in Park. Can't move it. I had to get it picked up and taken to a audi specialist who managed to get it working again. 2 days later it got stuck in Park. The specialist said if it happens again it will need a new gearbox ECU.

I've searched forum and found out there is a small button under the front ashtray to allow me to get it out of Park and it worked. I'm worried it will get stuck again or ruining my gearbox? Not too sure what the implications are of driving the car after pressing the reset.

I've found a few well know people who can refub my ECU but need to know where it is and how to get it out! Does anyone know where it is and how to remove it. Hopefully its a easy job!

    Thanks

Has it been scanned for faults first of all?

    Do you have a printout?

Hi it had its faults cleared by garage. They did not give me any code etc.
They did say if it happens again it will need a new gearbox ecu!

    Hi,

Just an update. I took my car to a specialist in Bristol who can repair ECU's. He did a diagnostic on it and found it to be the circuit in the ECU. It seemed to be a dry solder connection. This was stopping the car from getting out of park and causing other issues! He showed me the ecu and it was obvious. This guy only did Audo gearboxes and seemd to know his stuff. So far so good. He fixed it and updated my gearbox software from 2006 to 2012 and what a difference it has made!. So much smoother and less lag plus better fuel economy. Result

    Thanks for your helps guys!

Would you be able to tell us who did the repair, would be useful for others if they need help.

    Thanks.

FYI - I also had a good experience with Alex (his number is usually in his ebay adverts). He REALLY knows his stuff, but it takes a bit of bravery to take your car to someone at their home. His English is great in person but over the phone I can barely understand him.

His advice was to get your gearbox oil changed a lot more than they recommend

Interestingly I called Alex with a view to him doing a fluid change on my tiptronic, he refused stating that it is known to cause problems..even when I advised that it had a fluid/filter change last year and the latest fluid change was to ensure my fluid was 97% new....he still said no

Maybe the tiptronic is a different beast to the multitronic (which is certainly Alex's bread and butter)

If I had a new car I think I'd go manual as there is certainly less risk of problems... However I do like the autos, even if they can have issues...
