Hello, first post to this forum so I'm hoping someone can help me!

My 2003 Audi A4 1.8T won't start first time, generally takes 2 or 3 attempts where it cranks, sometimes pops and eventually starts. There seems to be a nack to it where if you flick the key quickly the first time it starts on the second. Generally starts a bit better if been running for a while previously but never starts first time. Diagnostics said Crankshaft/Camshaft position sensors with codes P1341 and P1340 so I booked it in for both sensors to be replaced, £160 later and the garage informs me that the car will still not start first time. They took engine cover off and believe that the problem could be that the camshafts are misaligned on timing chain- there is also evidence that the previous owner as taken head gasket off at some stage. They aren't Audi specialists and recommended I get in touch with a garage with a lot of experience in this area- anyone got any ideas about possible causes and how much it would costs to have realigned? I rang a garage who specialises in audi/vw and they said for this model it will costs £400 just in labour to get to the right part to check it out! I just want to make sure I know what other possible causes it could be before I waste more money.

Based in leeds if anyone knows a good garage

Any ideas/help would be appreciated!!

Thanks
