Bought a replacement engine and dont think its good

Hi all, i have recently bought a a4 b6 2.0 se which needed a new oil pump i decided to get another engine after getting a price for a new pump £850 + vat (ouch!) i decided to go the new second hand engine route i purchased it off ebay for £395 with 62000 mls fully tested (run up for 40 mins apparently) anyway i recieved the engine and it didnt look like it had done 62000 more like 162000 lol i turned it over by hand and it made a klunk noise i removed the cam cover and its the second cam jumping every 1/4 turn. any ideas????? also the cam doesnt look seated properly if its a easy fix i'll consider repairing it if not i'll send it back. thanks guys.015.jpg 016.jpg

Was your engine good apart from the pump? I'd be inclined to repair the pump if it was. What guarantee is on the engine you bought? If you didn't hear it running be wary that engine seems overly cheap IMO

The original engine was good until the pump went from what the owner tells me. the engine i bought has a 30 day warranty i have spoken to the owner where i purchased the engine and he assures me it 100% but i dont really want to waste my time and money fitting new timing belt and water pump and clutch only for it to be knackered.

You don't have to change the belt clutch etc to check if it starts, runs and sounds ok, are you doing the work yourself?

not sure what you mean by 'the cam doesn't look seated '
doesn't the chain tensioner require oil pressure to keep it tight, so turning by hand will allow the chain to go slack and cause the cam to jump. try it with your other engine maybe ?
