Most people start with a simple remap

If you're looking more then you can add different intercoolers, cold air intakes etc.

Try and set your power goal then proceed with the mods ! The 1.8T engine has massive tuning potential, the difference is how much money you want to throw at it ? A gt28rs ball bearin turbo, manifold to suit + downpipe and injectors + the custom remap can net you over 350Bhp reliable. Any more and you're looking at upgrading the internals: forged rods, lower compression forged pistons, uprated valve springs, ported head and much more !

The best way to get power at a decent price on a 190 is......

Forge 007p Diverter Valve (an absolute Must if increasing power on a 190)
3" CatBack Exhaust System (Milltek is the best but Custom made saves a few quid and can still give great benefits)
Uprated Panel Filter (Cold Air Intakes only add to the Intake noise and make no difference to power over a Pipercross or K&N Panel filter, I have a £300 Carbonio Cold Air Intake and although it sounds AWESOME!!! it makes no difference whatsoever over the Pipercross i had prviously)
Custom Remap to suit the above upgrades.

These will get you around 230-240bhp and completely change the way the car drives and feels.

after this you then have the following (But expensive) Mods.

Stage 2 or 3 Uprated Clutch (Standard one will be ruined in no time when you go past 250bhp)
    3" MAF and pipework (from a TT225)
Uprated Fuel Injectors and Fuel Rail (From a TT225)
    Bigger fuel Pump.
Bigger Turbo (depending on your Engine Code you may already have the K04, so then if you do it's a very expensive route to take to change the turbo to a BIG TURBO!!) But the K04 is already a good enough turbo to take you close to the 280bhp mark. If you go bigger turbo then all new Manifolds etc is needed and costs big bucks
Bigger Front Mount Intercooler is a MUST if you are taking it past 250bhp as the Double side mounts on your car wont handle more than 250bhp.
Then from there on in it is Major overhauling that brings more power (and not worth it as you will kill the useability of the car)
    1.8Turbo. Stage 1 Tuned 215bhp
l Powerflow Cat Back Exhaust l Carbonio Cold Air Intake l Forge 007P Diverter l Stage 1 Remap l Stage 2 Carbon Kevlar Clutch l 40mm Apex Lowering Springs l HZ Altezza Front skirt l HZ Altezza side skirts l HZ Altezza spoiler l Votex Rear Bumper l 19" RS6 Alloys l 312mm Brake Upgrade l 2007 S-Line Interior l

I was wondering the same, I have a 1.8t A4 convertible which I believe is the same engine as the TT but the convertible is only 168bhp ?? what would I need to do to make it either 180bhp or 225bhp ??

    Cheers
    Paul

A simple remap would get you close to those figures, obviously make sure it's been recently serviced too.

Are you sure its the same engine? I thought A4's had Longitudinal engine Layouts and TT's were Transverse. What is your Engine Code?

If it is the 163bhp model, as Chris says, A remap & Panel Filter should get you to 193bhp and only cost you around £300.

I've always been into Tuning my Cars/Bikes and I was always told the first thing you should concentrate on when trying to get extra power is the engines Breathing, So,.......A panel Filter and 3" cat back exhaust is always the first things to do when tuning a 1.8T. then if you want a remap a Forge 007p recirculation Valve MUST be fitted as the Flange in the standard valve will spilt under the extra pressure the remap puts through the system.

1.8T's can be tuned to any level, you can mildly tune them for relatively very little or you can go all out and take them to stupid power for such a small engine, they are such amazing lumps.
