Sorry, i forgot to mention the temperature readings were taken using the diagnostic equipment and were within 4 degrees at hot running temp.

Anyway after more research on this forum site, I removed the crankcase breather valve this morning (after eventually finding it hidden at the back and under the inlet manifold) and its broken, part no is 035 103 245 G and is around 7 squid. Also I think the round thing me bob at the back of the engine may also be broken, I think it's called the PCV and is linked to the same pipe work as the crankcase valve. Part no. 06A 129 101 A, when I have replaced these 2 items and had another code reading done I will let you know if the fault is fixed. Cheers.

These two valves are common problems & often lead to the erratic idle problems. I changed these two on my car at the beginning of the year & the CTS sensor at the back of the block (a right pig). When you change the valves, take apart as much of the associated pipework as you can/dare & clean it - it'll be full of sludge!

Right then, fitted the new crankcase breather valve tonight, (waiting for the 2 clips to come in tomorrow before changing the UFO shaped one at the rear of the engine)

Started the engine and seems much better, there was hardly any pressure holding the oil filler cap down, in fact it was rattling around quite nicely when it was undone. Yesterday there was a lot of vacuum holding it down and took a fair pull to release it. Also the tick over doesn't change anymore when the filler cap is undone, yesterday the revs would drop as the filler cap was released from its vacuum hold. So I reckon it's fixed, I will change the other valve tomorrow and run some shell or esso fuel through it, get a scan done again and any codes reset, then run for a week and get another scan.

Thanks again for all of your input....
