At the moment I have to pull away quite hard to get it to happen and it must be while I've got a reasonable amount of right lock on. It's like someone tapping the bulkhead semi hard with a small hammer, just near your right foot. You only get a single tap so not CV joint I think.

My gut feeling is that it's a loose bolt or something like that. Any ideas?

possibly a loose bolt, more likely a worn bush , arb link or still could be the cv.

Check the kerbside inner one, boot splits real easy.

It might be a sticking pad in the front caliper. You need to have a look.

    To give you a list

    Link bar
    CVJ
    Strut Mount
    Loose wheel nut
    Bottom swivel
    Bottom arm bushes
    Pad play
Engine or box mount *this is classic if the bulkhead is drumming* it's the torque sends the lump back and it hits.

Whats your stationary steering like, is it groaning or not?

I went into a roundabout a little spirited with the clutch in and I can get the clunk, I suspect a subframe bolt more than ever now. I think it's getting worse too so I may be able to get it to move with a bar at some point. Or nurse it to the MOT (December I think) and see if they find anything.

Hmmmm, that rules out engine mounts,

Now I've another test for you,

Drive up to a junction or anywhere you can safely do 40 mph and stop abruptly,

Once you are stopped or nearly stopped feel for what I can only describe as the engine traveling on on it's own as if it was leaving the car through the front grille,

If you are getting this I think it could be your DMF is on it's way out and running unbalanced, I'm assuming that is what causes this phenomenon anyway.

Knock hasn't happened for quite a while and it passed the MOT the other day with no advisories so this will remain a mystery until it resurfaces.
