    Hi everyone,

The time has come to get the timing belt repaired. I have spoken to the VW main dealer and they have quoted me £439 to change the belt and water pump.

I am not bothered if it is done by a main dealer of a local garage so was wondering if anyone can recommend someone in the Essex / Herts area to get in touch with. Better still, does anyone on here do a bit of private work. I would be happy to travel if the price was right.

    Thanks.

    Steve.

What car have got, and please provide the engine code. It is on the ID label in the spare wheel bay. Find a VAG independant and get them to quote. Regards Peter

I just paid £300 at my local indy . took him half a day ... if they tell you more because the whole front end has to come off, quote the " service position " to them . seen it done this way and saves hours on stripping and a rebuild .... I live in the grim north , why eye man

Thanks for the replies. Smithy, do you mind telling me what they charged you. Best price I have so far is £350. Didn't think to check the sponsors, will do that now.

Main dealer peice seems ok to me genuine parts and warranty. Some indies use OEM or better parts some use crap. If youre going the indie route ask a few people that have used him, word of mouth is a great ad and deterrent
