    Hi all,
I am about to do the fuel filter on my A6 (CAGB common rail engine) the long cylindrical Type one.

My question is do you need to bleed it using VCDS or can you just top it up with diesel and go from there.

The manual gives a 'ran out of fuel operation' so is this just the case of running the ignition for the 2 minutes and cranking over until she fires ok.

Also if i get the car into limp mode whats the code to reset this.

    Thanks Dan

Should be fine diong what the manual says.

Limp mode is only when something fails and you will need a diagnostic tool like vcds to fix it and of course fix th failing part.

    Instructions from service guide

Undo nut (green line), top cover will hinge upwards then slide to right to unhook from lower section, detach hoses (red lines), remove filter, installation reverse, nut tightening torq. 8nm ...

It does recommend priming system via VAS ...

I believe due to i) service instructions ii) horizontal mounting of FF fuel will leak from filter if filled before hand ...

The electric tank fuel pump can be run via 'output test' in module 1 using VCDS ...
if car does go into limp mode a DTC clear via VCDS will sort it ...

When I did the fuel filter on my car (different engine) I tried using this Link:- Fuel Pump Basic Settings for PD, PPD, and CR TDI Engines - Ross-Tech Wiki and it did not work but 'output test' does fire up electric fuel pump on mine ...

Just the info that i wanted as the manuals said how to prime/bleed the system using the dealer tool.

I need to read the ross tech wiki's more.

I think the basic setting channel 35 work's with the 4 letter common rail engines as some info I read in official VAG service guide concerning high pressure fuel pump replacement had that exact channel highlighted and that's why it never worked on mine IMO ...

Is it a different procedure for CANA TDI Gup, as my filter is nothing like this engine ?

Did the Fuel Filter today, just clamped off both hoses and Released the clips. There was a slight spillage not much drained the old filter in to a clean jug.

Replaced the filter and primed the filter using the Fuel Pump Basic Settings for PD, PPD, and CR TDI Engines - Ross-Tech Wiki instructions.

The channel 35 was not an option just used the Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) test method.

    She worked without any trouble.

Drained diesel put back into the tank.

    Cheers Dan
