Hello everyone. I have a bit of a problem with my 56reg 3.0TDI q7. Basically, the motor revs up but there is no power whatsoever. I have a car-wizard handy in my family and he had quickly diagnosed that my turbocharger is way 'too stiff' to operate, and sometimes doesn't move at all (which was confirmed by a vag scan). Now, he can do the 'cleaning out' of the turbocharger himself (he's done it in the past in the garage he used to work) so hopefully no probs on this side. The problem we have is sourcing the right seals and gaskets that will be required after removal from the motor. Could anyone confirm that I need at least two seals/gaskets (one on the exhaust side and one on the air-intake side) and if that's the case, what exactly to buy and where, please? We are planning 'the surgery' for the next weekend so I have a week to get them. Any help is highly appreciated.

Ideally you need a scan with diagnostic equipment such as vcds

Engine number would be handy to have.

That indicates a controller failure rather than turbo failure.

Yes. We've checked these already (as much as possible). But then my guy took of the shaft that drives the 'flaps' in the charger and tried moving it 'manually'. According to him it should move effortlessly. Unfortunately that's not the case. Frankly, he had already managed to repair the steering rack and pretty much everything else that my Q7 threw at him so I see no reason not to trust him (he's my cousin too :-) ).
But nevertheless thank you for your input :-)

    Fair enough.

Just thinking of checking easy things before stripping the turbo.

Are these 3.0TDi's not bi turbo?

Now, thats a good question. I suppose I'd better give him a ring and as the same question. Although I do believe he would have known that alrewdy. Perhaps somebody else here might know better...
BTW, I am not a car mechanic but as far as I can tell there is only one air filter and there's only one fat tube going from it to the turbocharger. So I guess its just one?

This link is for the turbo on the q7 3.0 tdi.

I would recommend ensuring this is your turbo first.
