    hello all

I have a 2007 a6 SE which I have owned since new. I have audi music interface along side the 6 disc cd changer and suddenly its stopped working. when the audi music interface is selected, the screen just says initialising device and does not load the ipod, I have tried a usb drive and still the same message.

also maybe not related but ever since it hasn't worked the radio would stop producing sound for 1 second and then cut back in.

oh i have mmi 2g and the ipod has been fitted since new

any advice would be great, looks like a great forum.
    thanks.

hi. it sounds like your ami it's packed up. and YES it will affect whole mmi cause they all connected thru optical cables, and if one of them causing problems then whole system is playin up.

am affraid so. but is expensive. around £250, you can buy a optics bypass tool from audi around £8 and plug it in instead ami and check if radio play ok. to do that make sure mmi is off and ignition is off as well

A poster had the same issue with a new AMI unit, he ran the last released firmware update on unit and it started working ... Link:- Ami

I'd say worth a try before buying new unit and also get a VCDS scan done before you by a new unit as currently you can't be sure if it is AMI unit at fault and not another MMI module ...

Besides the auto-scan via VCDS running this test will assess MOST loop and MMI modules Link:- Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour: Optical Bus Diagnostics

You can ask a forum member to scan your car for beer tokens ... Link:- VWAF User Location Map - VCDS - Google Maps

As you have low post count you can't PM a member but you can PM the mod team ( A6_Chris , mycarsavw , eshrules ) and one of them can PM the member for you ...

    and Welcome to VWAF! ...

Indeed a good little test without VCDS ...

You could also try unplugging the system for a few minutes & see if it comes back up when all reconnected, seen numerous systems just require a soft reset of this nature before, including ami.

As above, pull it out and out in a optical loop and see if the radio stops cutting out, if it does then you've found your problem.

Get someone to scan the car with vcds as Gup has advised, it will give you a better insight into what's going on and feel free to PM me any name you find.

thank you all for your replies

I have ordered one of these off ebay hopefully its the right one Fiber MOST optic loop AUDI MMI 2G, 3G, 3G+ A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q3, Q5,Q7 | eBay

I have a audi specialist 20 minutes from me so will get them to do a fault readout on the car and I have taken the ipod dock out and took some details of the label if it helps

I have tried the update gupsterg posted but it still won't recognise the device, I will try and do some 'faffing' like the poster in the AMI thread did and cross my fingers

    hello again

I got the car to the audi specialist and ran the test that gupsterg suggested

everything seems fine, I also tried the mmi loop and the sound stopped cutting out so im definitely guessing I need a new music unit?

the mechanic tried to go into the ipod and he said something like it wasn't responding and displayed an error message.
