Apologies, I did try a search but failed abjectly in finding an answer. From googling I know there are various opinions on how to "set" bi-xenon headlights for European use. Some say (now where I have I heard that phrase before...) that they can be adjusted by VCDS (which means two trips to a garage capable of doing it), others say that the adjustment can be made with a lever inside the headlamp housing (with some dismantling of stuff in the engine bay required). And no way to tell externally what method your lights use.

Others say deflectors can't be used "because of the heat" - not sure about that (the "heat" issue I mean)

And then there are those who say deflectors can be used - but I can't find a source! Well a post on Snowheads showed an extract from an Audi manual indicating areas to mask, but that may not have been for xenons..

Audi A6 Headlight Deflectors and Snow Chains: Latest, snowHeads ski forum

Now surely someone on this forum has travelled to Europe AND have bi-xenons AND masked / adjusted them....?

Cheers, I've pm'd him - though to be honest Gup, I'm astounded you don't have the comprehensive answer!

Just seen this response from NHN (also on here as a user, and a VCDS reseller) on audi-sport-net..

"Just note though it merely lowers the beam pattern, doesnt change it to other side & it should be possible with vcds in 55 as stated with xenons of most oem type. "

So actually not that great as the dip range would be much reduced. And how does doing this square with the usual AA advice that it is a legal requirement to fit beam deflectors when travelling abroad? Hmmm.

    Ah ha! Just found this..

    Halfords | Halfords Headlamp Converters

Beam deflectors for the latest "clear glass, projector and Xenon" headlights. Might be the simplest (if not most effective!) solution.

EDIT: And indeed, these are the ones tha EssexGonzo used (well he used similar off Amazon ref B001P5SPJW).

Sorted! Now for the first aid kit, hi-vis, breathalysers, roof bars, tow bar (ordered already fron PF Jones) cycle carrier, roof box etc. etc......

Yep they work. The Halfords /AA ones have a specific fitting pattern guide for the C6 with xenon's.

Heat isn't an issue and they stop some of the beam that points to the left.

Buy from Amazon for less than a fiver.

    Don't forget spare bulbs.

The breathalizers must have NF on them to meet french standards and you need at least 2. Of course they are far cheaper in France but too late then.

Also the yellow jackets must be stored in the car with you so you can put them on before getting out !

Be there myself in a few days, looking forward to it.

Just bought these, same thing but cheaper price:

EUROLITES HEADLAMP BEAM ADAPTORS HEAD LIGHT CONVERTERS | eBay

    Thanks for the tip.

Last few trips I just used VCDS as I have adaptive lights, seems the point about it just lowering the beams rather than reducing dip to nearside is correct, didn't spot that. I did this and took a translation in French of the procedure with me in case.

Having something visible on the lenses is the best plan I think, rather than trying to explain .....

Apparently the spare bulb kit is now "advised", not compulsory. Just as well with Xenons! Breathalysers are required - but the fine of €11 has been delayed indefinitley. High vis in the car (not the boot) is something I do anyway.
