The plug has been ruined and I doubt if the filter has been changed for sometime. The plug is made of alloy for some reason and that's caused the allen hole to be rounded off.I hope to replace it if I can get the filter cover off.Any tips on how to get the old plug out?

not sure what size it is, but normally an allen bolt can be removed by hammering a torx bit into it, or even a spline bit of the right size.

Thanks zollaf.I have tried forcing something in there but wary of hammering too hard cos its screwed in the plastic cover which could break and its full of oil!The alloy is just too soft andfails to stand up to any force. No doubt it was overtightened .I will have to get the cover of as it is and probably buy a new one £45 with the drain plug! Stupid idea not to use a canister filter or at least a steel plug

Changed the cap after taking out the new plug which was very tight .Put some copperease on it so it should come out next time. The old filter looked very tired so it needed another. The book said 3.9 ltrs but had to use nearly 5 to get to full and the old oil measured about 4 and that was near the min and excludes filter so I assume the book is wrong unless the dipstick lies!Still couldn't get the old plug out even on the bench
