Came across a good website today when looking for a new Golf 2.0 TDi SE 5dr Hatch, £1800 off the list price on this model and a special offer if purchased with VW finance.

Just wondered if anyone here had used this site?

Not used that site, but visited two local dealers when getting mine and both were willing to go to the What Car target price without any pushing. I ended up getting a little more knocked off in the end. I would recommend speaking to a local dealer to see if they can match a net price.

Did you have a part ex? If so did that affect the net price?

I did part ex yes, I agreed a price with the salesman for that first off, which I have to say was pretty fair really. £900 more than the BMW dealer had offered me two days earlier, and pretty much what the book said, so I was happy.

I then got him to give me a price on the Golf which is when I pointed out the What Car target price and how another dealer close by had matched it. He went to talk to the sales manager and when he came back said they would beat it by £365 if they could have my business that day.

It was all quite straightforward really, not at all like how I remembered buying a car to be!

Thanks for that. I may give it a go as we're thinking of replacing our Mk 6 with a Mk 7. I usually hate car salesmen as they often refuse point blank to give a price; one even said to me 'If I give you a price you'll only use it to haggle with another dealer'! - cheek!

Hi, thanks for the replies... I will visit the local dealer but I never really get on with them to be honest as I always feel a bit pressured and like I am wasting their time. I do have a part-ex but I think I'll sell it myself as in the past I have got a lot more than what the dealer has offered me.

I made an enquiry on the site I mentioned this evening, will see if they come back to me tomorrow. I'll also make an enquiry on the site suggested by Mal and see what happens with that ...Will report back when I know more.

Had a quick look at the WhatCar target price as mentioned above and it is £20,246 which is about what is shown on http://www.myvwgolf.co.uk ...I'll see if the other deal is too good to be true!

I know what you mean about going into dealers, I put off changing mine for months because I couldn't be bothered putting up with all the BS!

That said, both of the VW dealers I spoke to were ok, no hard sell at all really. Just luck of the draw really.
