I have a 2001 (51 plate in UK) (is mine an MK1 model?) model Audi A3 1.6L 3-door car. The wheels are 15" and on tyre it says 195/65/R15 914V (not sure what any of that means, but assuming R stands for Rim and that means they are 15" alloy wheels?).

Anyway, all four tyres are in need of replacement, so I figured I might as well get some larger wheels which will look better on my black car. The 15" wheels are the cheapest factory ones that look terrible.

I'm thinking 17" (18" might be OTT and the low profile tyres might cost more). Also, at 47, my boy-racer days are kind of behind me.

So, question is, I've seen a set of 4 17" Audi wheels with nearly new tyres on eBay, but they are off a 2008 model Audi A3 (I think that is MK2, not sure.) Will they fit on my car?

These are what I'm looking at:

audi a3 sport, genuine 17 inch alloy wheels (nearly new tyres) | eBay

Then there are these, but this next link is for 18" and they look a little too large:

    audi 5 stud multifit alloys a3 a4 a5 a6 a7 alloy wheels 225 40 18 inch | eBay

I don't want to spend more than £350 to £400 for wheels including tyres.

I'm not really a petrol head so I don't get the technical jargon, so please keep it simple fellas

    I'm based in Cambridgeshire, UK.

Thanks in advance for your help to a new Audi owner. Having owned 3 series BMW's in the past, I'm pretty impressed with this A3 - it is by far the best small car I have owned.

    Welcome to VWAF.

To fit mk2 A3 wheels you will need adapters as the mk1 is 5x100 and the mk2 is 5x112 as far as I know.

I think you might be pushing things with 18s but the 17s should be fine. I'll have a look later when I'm on my laptop for any alternatives.
