    Hi all,
with the weekend ahead and some issues to be sorted on my A6 I was trying to find out where cylinder 1 is hiding and which side bank 1 is.

I googled for it but seem to be getting different results.

Looking into the engine room from the front of the car (UK) am I correct that cylinder 1 is the first cylinder on the left side near the air filter?
From there towards the cabin are following cylinder 2 and 3.
On the right side then it starts with cylinder 4 in the front and then 5 and 6. Correct?

It then would make sense to me that bank 1 is on the left side (cylinders 1-3) and bank 2 probably on the right side (cylinders 4-6) rather than in the boot, correct?

Wasn't there a rule of thumb for determine this? Something like counting from where the gear box sits and when it comes to V-shapes left is bank 1 and right is bank 2 .....

Thanks for you help! Appreciated as usual!

    3.0 V6?

From where you're standing, on the left is Bank 1, cylinders are numbered 1 2 3 with 1 being closest to the rad and 3 being closest to the bulkhead, on the right is Bank 2, cylinders 4 5 6 with 4 being closest to the rad and 6 being closest to the bulkhead.

The handing is usually taken from inside the car though, facing forwards, so Bank 1 is right, Bank 2 is left.

Edit - I'm 100% sure the banks are correct, but it would be wise to share your engine before you go thundering onward taking the advice of some dunce on the internet

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.
