Hi all, has anybody got the correct part number at hand? Seems that there is a lot of confusion about it out there. Thanks!

Did you check and see if yours are subject to a free recall?

    Welcome to the site Hoffi.

Redtops are practically the same price iirc, but I don't seem to recall them being of any functional difference.

@A6_Chris: The next Audi dealership is miles away and I really do not fancy trying to convince them to help me. Too many bad experience with dealerships in the past. I rather save my time and buy a new one (only have a misfire on cylinder one, spark plugs I have just changed) and possibly one or two as spare. Saves me time and possible headache.

@NHN: I thought something like that but when checking any online shop or e-bay the shops insist that certain red tops are for certain engines only. Couldn't think of any difference either but with all the tec stuff on board you never know.

@all: Thanks for your replies.Really appreciated.

Why don't you ring them and see? May aswell if it could turn out to be a free replacement.

    Welcome to VWAF! ...

P/N for AUK 3.2 FSI is 06E 905 115 E ... here Hoffi is extract from the TSB / TPI stating what NHN has posted ...

The main consideration for the implementation of this campaign is the technical status of the vehicle. In other words, mixed installation of red and black ignition coils is permissible, providing that they meet the technical requirements.
    List of ignition coils

    Engine code
    A
Ignition coils with these part numbers can remain in the vehicle; no replacement necessary:

If the part numbers of ignition coils fitted in the vehicle are not as listed in column A, replace with the following:
    3.2 ltr. FSI
    AUK
    BKH
    BPK
    BYU
    06E 905 115 D

After completing the required work, make the entry "28E9 completed" (including date and workshop stamp) in the first vacant box in the Service Record section of the Service Schedule or in the section for Workshop remarks.
If your car has had the recall done before the bold text above is the recall code which will be in service log ...

Approx. price for a coil pack £40 @ dealer but I have found these on ebay Link:- Genuine Audi VW Seat Skoda Ignition Coil Packs 06E 905 115E

Before purchase please verify P/N with local dealer , from posts people have varying success of getting a P/N from a dealer but if you have one to hand they will verify that it is correct for you car by VIN ...

Not necessarily - it you don't want to potentially save some money then I can't comment any further!

It's worth a call to Audi, takes 2 mins to check. Did mine and it hadn't been done so free job, and they washed the car whilst I sampled their coffee !!

If you do want to DIY, maybe worth swapping with another one on your engine to verify the fault follows the coil pack, just in case it's wiring or something else. P/N will be on the unit, but as you say there is probably a newer one after the recall.

I share your past bad experiences but IMHO if it's a free recall then you don't have anything to loose but a bit of time.

Good luck and keep us posted.

@A6_Chris: That is going off topic now. If there is a meeting one day in the future and we meet personally we can discuss this matter in length. You then will understand what I mean! @apole: The cabling looked all good and I started with misfires on cylinder 1 and 2. Changing spark plugs killed at least one of these errors so I am expecting to get rid of the last one with the new coil pack.
