    Hi there,

Do the brake lights operate differently when the rear fog light is turned on?

I have a 54 reg Audi A6 saloon, and when the rear fogs are on the outer brake lights don't operate (the inner pair and the one in the rear screen do).

It confused the MOT tester today, and has now confused me. I have never used the rear fog light and the MOT place is also new to me, so I have no idea whether this is new behaviour or whether it was designed that way. I don't want to chase after a non-problem, but can't find any documentation on it.

    Thanks,

    Matt

yes thats right, when braking only the two inners operate and the far outer right stays off and is reserved for the fog light on both sides.

thats on the non-led cluster. led cluster only has one fog on the os and one reverse light on the ns

    Yes, sorry. I have non-LED.

Can you confirm that the brake lights function differently depending on whether the rear fog light is on.
    Mine certainly does.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    brake - two inners
rear fog - outer light on both sides
brake and fog - only the inner brake light on both sides.

led prefacelift clusters no difference when brake and fog are on.

    seems perfectly normal to me.

On mine it's the outers, not the inners that are the brakes

That's true! I hadn't noticed that the saloon was different but then it's not exactly a common car so I've not been aware of following one

Excellent, so it was designed that way and the MOT tester was being overly cautious. Great news.

Thanks so much for your help,

    Matt
