I have an Audi A4 2002 se model 130 bhp. Its wearing tyres excessively on the inside of the tyres. Its actually wearing the shoulders and down towards the rim. Its running 17" tyres. Got it tracked twice and balanced and still wearing them. It actually wore two new tyres on the front in 3 months with jus average driving. Can anyone help me? tyres are so expensive.

Are they the original wheel size or aftermarket fitted. Yoy may need the camber adjusted.

Is it wearing the inside and outside shoulder at the same time or just the inside?

Its just wearing the inside. The middle and ouside of the tyres were perfect. It annoyed me so much having to get new tyres when the rest of the tyre was ok. Were an aftermarket idea all right but from a very reputable dealer. I asked around to see could the cambeer be adjusted and people seem to think it cant be..

the camber can be adjusted, allot of garages don't like the A4 multilink suspension, but it can still be adjusted.

Find a good one ot take it to a dealer and you'll save your pounds on your tyres

Its not the quality of the wheels, it just that they are bigger diameter, even a small amount and it can mess things up.

Cheers. Thanks a million for that. Would it make a difference though whether i run 16 17 or even 18s. If the camber is out is it out with everything??

if the camber is out is is out for all. But if it correct for 16inch wheels then may need adjusting for 17in wheels. All cars run some camber it helps the handling but too much and the tyres dont last long.

A racing touring car woulds run more as it spends more time going round corners!!

    Hi Rob

Will there be any issues if I change my current standard 15" wheels for some genuine 16" Audi wheels?

    Thanks

Do you have particularly vicious (or numerous) speed cushions where you live?

This can be a cause for this pattern of wear. Although, given the rate that you wore them down, I doubt it will be the only cause.

If you get an expert report that says the wear is due to speed cushions, you may be able to approach your local council for compensation (poss through the small claims court). A pain in the backside, but the more that do this, the more chance there is to stem the relentless tide of these monstrosities.

PS - I am not looking to start a debate/rant on speeding/traffic calming. I am all for traffic calming when it is well thought out, safe and sensible. These cushions just seem an easy option and often tick none of the boxes above.
