Hi new to the forum.......to german cars aswell.

I am currently selling my very nippy 106 GTi
    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/233494.htm

I have been an estate agent for a while now and want something more comfortable and respectable.

I also want something reliable, economical and long term.

The A3 seems to tick all boxes. but i have a couple of questions.

a.) Is the 2.0 tdi sport (140) as good on mpg as they say 54?
b.) does it lean a lot or does the ride feel quite flat and sporty.
c.) Is the engine easily and cheaply tuned and what gains am i likely to see
d.) Whats the differences between the sport and the other 2.0 tdi's (appearance and performance wise).

sorry theres a lot there guys.

Looks a great forum I hope to have a long and happy stay here.

When looking at the mpg look at the urban figure and then the combined - i'm getting an average of 42 on my tdi 170 so you should get better than that. The book figure for mine is 48.7 so use that as a guide.

    Over the SE:

The sport has sports suspension and sports seats. Fog lights, drivers information system, 17" alloys and a different trim. Use audi's compare cars feature on their website.

From the outside they look pretty similar, the Sport has a slightly different front valance.

The only difference in performance between the 2.0 tdi's is between the 140bhp and 170bhp. the 0-60 is 9.5 and 8.2 respectively, top speed is 129 and 138. it is the in gear stuff that will make a big difference. It is however really difficult to find these figures out for the 170 though.

the ride is pretty flat and sporty, the Golf however is slightly better in this respect and handles better.

A remap is the easiest way to go, you will gain another 30ish bhp which will make the engine more responsive, better fuel, performance and smiles. You should declare it to your insurer though which could make it quite expensive for those extra smiles.

Drive each of them to see what they feel like. You should be able to get them for at least a couple of hours. a 20 minute test drive is pretty useless in my opinion.

You shouldn't rule out the Leon, Golf and Octavia, unless you don't like them of course.
