Hi everyone; I've just bought a 2004 A3 1.9TDI. After driving the car for 100 miles the clutch pedal sank; and in resting position it sat just higher than the left foot rest; the last inch I have to pull up with my foot. I still have feel of biting point etc when operating. I was just wondering if the pedal should have a return spring? Or if the master cylinder has failed/ common problem? I had a quick look in the dark just now to see a hole in the clutch pedal (just below where the master cyl joins the pedal) and I was wondering if there should be something there? (I had a look on the floor and couldn't see anything).

P.s - car has done 150k and had a clutch and dmf in Feb this year.

    Many thanks!

    Tom

Pedal should spring back, my Megane use to keep the pedal on the floor until I found a brake fluid leak which was a small dribble so check brake fluid and see when it was last changed. Should be every 2 years.

After having a brief look earlier I presume brakes and clutch share a reservoir? Level is fine and I cannot see any leaks at either master or slave (w/out removing airbox). The pedal dropped immediately while driving and didn't seem to drop anymore after 30 miles.

What Doctle Odd is saying is that it is meant to be like that. The brake and clutch do share the same reservoir.
