If you mean an expensive piece of card covered in "special" oil I wouldn't bother

stick with a standard filter and save all the grief and no extra power that comes with all the others.

In most cases (from what I've read) a performance air filter will do zilch for a derv and could (in some cases) make things worse.

I found that by just changing my old clogged OEM filter for a new cheaper aftermarket one made a difference (SoTPD of course!) am betting had I had it dyno'd before and after the change would have seen a few BHP.

So bought 4 x filters (£20 in total) and will just change every year....so more air=more power

On a diesel more air without adjusting the engine settings, fueling etc won't make a difference however cheap aftermarket ones will allow more dust etc into the system which is only good if you sell turbos

a high flow filter is useful if you are tuning an engine to the absolute max, but then most cotton gauze filters in tests don't actually flow any more air than a paper filter.

so if you want figures on MPG improvements here goes

March 2013; 35.3 MPG (Stock Map and Stock Filter)
April 2013; 35.3 MPG (Had Remap done halfway through month and new k&n air filter)
    May 2013; 40.3 MPG
So far this month 46.3 MPG

    Cant argue with that
