When I got mine in Aug 11 an Avant V6 3.0 TDi (TIP) on 55 plate with 70k for £10k I also test drove a Saloon with same spec except 226k on the clock for £4.5k if I ignored the mileage I really couldn't tell difference between the two, even interior/bodywise very little between them ...

But I just couldn't buy it for some unknown mental reason , perhaps I should have?

Rich, am I reading this right?

You've covered 79,000 miles in less than 11 months which equates to:
    7,000 miles per month
    1600 miles per week
    237 miles per day
    20 miles per hour
    0.3 miles per minute

    OMG dude that is awesome!!!

In such instances I always find the best solution to maintain your sanity...is to blame the wife.

Hell they always blame you for everything!?

Bought my 06 on 92k in Jan 12 now has 116k.

Aside from the 6 new injectors which annoyed me, ive been quite frankly staggered at how un-bothered the whole car feels to be running at 116k. The interior still looks new, once the engine is warm it runs quietly and smoothly (always sounds a bit harsher from cold, but thats all diesels i think).

I do a lot of fast long runs and it really never stresses the car at all.

Mine had always done long journeys so i think it was well run in. The injectors issue seems to occur at all different mileages so high or low im not sure i would have avoided that. I paid £10k for a very high spec'd, one owner car and overall been very happy.

I suppose a lower mileage would avoid some bodywork issues, recently ive had to have the notorious rusty cill where the door scuffs done and both lower wheel arches which had rusted due to the junk the front wheels throw up.

Clean & polished Daytona on a sunny day with the privacy glass even at 116k still looks good

Slightly different slant on this topic. I have a 59 reg 2.0tdie saloon which I've had from new and now has 62k on the clock, mainly motorway miles so an easy life and nothing needed so far apart from routine servicing and tyres. Bodywork is virtually unmarked, interior still like new, averages 50mpg+ and drives as well now as it did the first time I drove it. I'll hit 100k in about 2 years and I'd be happy to (and plan to) keep the car well beyond that because I know the history from day 1. I'm not sure I'd be as confident buying a car with 100k on it compared to running mine beyond 100k but I think a tidy, well maintained, less stressed high miler is probably a better bet than a lower mileage, tired looking car without a full history.

I know its not quite what you asked for but I bought my 08 2.7 multitronic Avant when it was 18 months old and had covered 73,000 miles. It came with full main dealer service history and a print out from the lease company stating everything which had been done to it, which apart from servicing and tyres was a number plate bulb replacement. It has now done 92,000 miles and still drives and looks like new inside and out. All Ive had done to it is a full service, including gearbox oil change, and replaced the front pads. I dont do a lot of miles and plan to keep it for a few years yet!

Funny how having a problem with your car starts you thinking what could go wrong next with it having such high mileage.(Just had a new EGR valve)

This balance shaft issue is niggling me with the BRE engine. How can I find out if its already been done?

The parts catalogue shows what VIN range has a chain or gear driven balancer unit, the hex follower which go between the oil pump and balancer shaft is 77mm regardless of which balancer unit is fitted ...
In parts catalogue it just shows modified balancer units have 100mm hex follower but there is no VIN/PR code data associated with that information which differs from the unmodified vehicle ...

Now this PR code info is what your dealer would use to match against your cars data file ... I tested this by asking Sapstar to query his dealer ...

this forum is a great read, but sometimes it brings doubts about the possible future problems we may have, just been reading about the hex driven oil pump problems and the balance shift issue and i was wondering if my engine has the modified shaft ??? i think that's what i'm on about .
it's a march 2008 bre engine with the vin starting with wauzzz4f78n0*****
