    Hi guys,

Really struggling whilst trying to help fix my friends passat, 1.9tdi 1998

To start with, the fan was intermittent, the climatronic unit flashed a few times before settling and occasionally operating the fan. So he asked me to have a look at the car for him.

I plugged in my laptop with vcds and got this under HVAC module:
    VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.2
    Monday, 22 December 2014, 13:40:33:37918
    Control Module Part Number: 3B2 907 044 A
    Component and/or Version: CLIMATRONIC S 7.0
    Software Coding: 02000
    Work Shop Code: WSC 05314
    VCID: 2033F79DB3DB
    1 Fault Found:
    01273 - Fresh Air Blower (V2)
    35-00 - -

So, I have removed the blower motor, stripped it and checked the brushes. Some wear but plenty of life left. So rebuilt it and supplied a direct 12v, fan spins!

Refitted the fan and tried again to use it via climatronic unit, not working. Not even intermittent anymore.

I then tried an output test but after about a minute and half it stops the test and says test incomplete (or similar).
So then I check the voltage in measuring block 8. The Actual Voltage fluctuates from 6v down to 1v. these figures rise slightly if I turn the fan speed up on the climatronic unit. Max of 9v though, doesnt ever go to 12v. The Fan Voltage remains the same at 0.5V.

Then I used a multimeter at the fan wires and no voltage showing unless I turned the fan off and then, it would spike a voltage to 6v then back to zero.

So I unplugged the heater resistor pack (red unit) and checked for voltage. I was 12v from the thin wire (from the A/C I believe it is) but nothing at the thick brown/white and brown/green wires.

My mate had ordered another Climatronic unit off ebay (same part number as original one). I plugged it in and it behaves exactly the same.

I CANNOT find any relay/s for the climatronic unit anywhere. There is none in the drivers footwell, only a relay number 3 (267) but removing this has no effect at all on the Climatronic unit.

We're at a complete loss. My mate will scrap the car if he can't get the fans working. The turbo has also failed but he has a donor passat 1.9tdi 1998 and we have taken the turbo from that to be fitted onto this one. Just a shame that the donor car has the dial heating system not a climatronic system fitted. :-(

Does anyone have any other pointers to check? Or know how to test the red resistor pack? (I'm assuming this works fine as the problem seems to be the supply voltage between the CLimatronic unit and the fan resistor pack.

Most of my testing was done with the engine off/ignition on. As my Audi runs the fans with just the ignition on. (my wifes Citroen however, needs the engine to be running though!)

    Many thanks.

    Dan

I have a 2002 passat and the climatronic on mine wont start the fan straight away, the engine has to be running for a couple of minutes. I dunno if the coolnat has to be a certain temp?

I don't know if it will help or not, but I've got a Climatronic dash unit kicking about somewhere out of my old 99 B5 Passat, it's the only thing I've got left of the car after it was sadly scrapped a few years ago!

Does it work? If so, how much please?

    Cheers

Hi,my 1999 1.9Tdi is doing exactly the same,it flashes for 30secs,then once the display settles i only have VERY intermittent blowers, getting less & less as the weeks go on.
I dont know if this helps, but i have a constant clicking noise coming from the fuse box to the right of the steering wheel, the only time it stops is when i turn the climatronic unit off completely.
Ive read that changing the unit wont make any difference,so i joined this site in the hope that someone can point me in the right direction.
I have VERY little mechanical/electrical experience, but im not scared of getting my hands dirty, and can usually follow instruction...(unless its from the mrs&#128521
    Cheers

I fixed my friends by replacing the unit for the 2nd time. The first one we bought was another dud. As for the clicking, I'd assume it's the climatronic unit causing havoc with the relay.....
