After my trusty Audi a4 b5 1.9tdi avante auto has nearly completed 300,000 miles i decided to replace the original engine mounts, drivers side with a Lemforder mounting (£70) and the passenger with a Febi, they are quite easy to replace and i fitted them in about an hour only to find i now have a noticeable vibration when sitting in traffic in drive and when in neutrol slightly less so i took the febi mounting out and put the original back in only to find the vibration disapeared so thinking there was a fault with the much cheaper £25 febi i purchased the more expensive £60 Lemforder and tried it in the passenger side and its still vibrating but not as bad??? im at my witts end? i changed each mounting out carefully marking there positions can anybody help on whats causing this vibration that wasnt there before with the old mounts, have read to try slacken them off run engine and tighten up but im frightened in case i damage them also do they take time to bed in.any advice please

You need the car up on axle stands. Undo the bolts holding the bracket to the engine. Remove/Loosen the 2 support bars. the bracket can then be moved over the mount. Just cut off the old mount with a Stanley knife. Lubricate the new mount with fairy liquid and water there's plenty of room to put it on. Slide the bracket over the mount and hand tighten the bolts. Start the car and allow it to centralise the bracket. Torque up the bolts and refit the support bars takes half an hour.

I just hand tighten the bolts and let the car run for a minute.

Hi tried it tonight and no joy i havent got a replacement mount as the one on it looks good? as mentioned before i cant centre the mounting in the plate as i cant see it because of the bumper is in the way the only way is too take the bumper off and i can get right in front of it to make sure its not touching the mount or i could get a replacement before i take the bumper off and try replacing it incase my mounting is swollen and touching the inside of metal plate causing the vibration -what do you think?

It's not really a mount its a like a torque stop, the bracket only moves up or down. Taking the bumper off will give you more room to work but on a B5 you can easily fit it without disturbing the bumper or lock carrier. The bracket is almost rectangular it's wider and the adjustment can only be done vertically
