    Morning

Firstly, can i apologise for my lack of technical knowledge, im fairly ok with petrol engines but diesels do go over my head a bit !

I have recently bought a 06 2.0tdi 170 bhp A4.... Whilst coming back from Bristol the other day the car went in to limp mode and the yellow coil light came on (flashed) and it knocked off the cruise control. I pulled on the hard shoulder, turned the engine off and restarted and it was fine for another 5 miles or so... needless to say that was a LONG drive back from Bristol !!

I took it to my local VAG Specialist and he plugged it in to the diagnostic machine and it came back with a Turbo under boost, they think it might have something to do with an actuator on the side of the turbo that wasnt working properly (sorry didnt get the part no). They told me that they cant replace the actuator without replacing the turbo (which sounds wrong) but what they did suggest is that it may be the DPF. They look at the soot reading on the DPF and the value was 66 which apparently is high so i have it booked in to have the DPF removed and remapped to 200bhp.

    So my questions are:

Is having the DPF removed going to solve the problem with the turbo (i wondered if it might be a turbo overboost if my dpf is blocked ?????) ?

Can i replace the actuator on the side of the turbo without replacing the turbo (i appreciate this might be hard to answer if there is more than one actuator!) ?

Are there any problems with the remap to 200bhp that i need to ask the garage about ?

Have i come anywhere near with supplying yiou with enough info to answer any of the above ?

    Thanks in Advance

    Jon

I'm positive you can buy an actuator. I dislike DPF but it's not causing the turbo to stop boosting IMO. Do you have or can you get the fault codes and post them on here?

Hi Doctle, thanks for coming back to me.

I dont know the fault code of the top of my head but i can find out (hopefully). With regards to the actuator, the VAG specialist mentioned something about them not being able to code the new part to the car so the whole unit needs replacing....

Let me see if i can find out the fault codes and come back to you.. thanks

It's a vacuum operated actuator it just pulls a rod. I think you might want to consider a using different mechanic

Well it might be a bit early to jump up and down but i read some other posts on the forum yesterday about giving the car a good thrashing to help to clear the DPF... yesterday lunch we did a nice little round trip of 30 miles at 4-4.5k revs, though i felt very bad about it, it hasnt faulted again since !!! It would normally fault at least once on the way home (mainly downhill) and at least 3 times on the way to work (mainly uphill) ... touch wood, no fault this morning !!

Still will get the fault codes when i get to the garage tomorrow as if they are taking the pi** over the vacuum actuator, im going to take it elsewhere from now on... they arent the cheapest !
