Egr delete kits, detrimental?

I have a '53 plate bora with 155,000 on the clock. I'm having problems with egr valve (keeps going into limp mode, with code p1557) I've changed the n75 valve, the MAP sensor and cleaned out the egr, but the problem is still occuring, I'm thinking of getting a delete kit to replace the egr, but before I do I was just curious as to weather it could be detrimental to my engine??

Its all good. (Unless you are a tree hugger as its function is to reduce polluting gases by re-burning carbons)
Removing EGR function = Less soot in the intake, less smoke, cleaner burning fuel and better acceleration. MPG will improve marginally too. Whats not to like?

To test it, you could always remove the rubber vacuum hose on top of the EGR and bung it. This will stop any burnt gases re-entering the intake and essentially do the same. Next steps are buying the blanking plates and then a complete delete kit.
The vaccuum pipe bung will do the job, just not as flash as a delete kit.

On later cars, the CEL might appear, but this needs to be mapped out, small job if your car has already been remapped. (My '03 car was fine)
