I've been lucky enough to find another member close enough and he kindly scanned my car (Thanks Saq!)
Here's the single error thrown out by vagcom.

    Address 56: Radio Labels: 8E0-035-192-RNSE.lbl

I've sussed that the antenna booster fails and it looks like mine has failed.
    So my questions are
    1 - is it expensive?
2 - if it is, is there an aftermarket equivalent?
    3 - is it easy/diy?

I have no idea what's involved but would upgrading to a DAB be worth it if it means I can avoid changing the antenna booster?

    Thoughts and ideas welcome!
    Cheers

Just replace the amp if its failed, costs yes, but at least its all working as per the system requires.

DAB will plug into existing circuit & it just goes in line with the existing antenna connections & essentially just cuts of any other reception whilst dabs turned on, depending on the implementation, it uses the same principle as an fm transmitter for say ipod except cabled, so comes in under 1 frequency & you can maybe get mfsw control to the dab or an ir remote.

As I said depends on implementation as to what interaction you get, for me I'd just get oem working again.

You'd need to remove the part to confirm part number & then price, if you sell it on then it will only come up as a negative anyway.
