Hope someone can shed some light on this (no pun intended). For some time I have had what I thought was an intermittent issue with the 'Right Rear Turn Signal' warning on my B7 Avant, when I switched the car ignition on. Over the weekend I worked out that it was only occurring when the head/tail lights were also on when the ignition was started. I have auto lights - hence the reason I originally thought it was an intermittent error.

I have tested it several times and it happens whether the headlights, or sidelights are on when the ignition is activated, whether on auto or manual. It does not happen if the ignition is activated and the headlights are subsequently turned on. When it does happen, simply activating the right turn signal clears the error. The indicators work 100% of the time.

I've scanned the car with vag-com with the error present in the dash, and without. Without it there, vag-com reports no error. When I scan it with the error present, it reports the following fault code:

Address 09: Cent. Elect. Labels: 8E0-907-279-8EC.lbl
    Part No: 8E0 907 279 L
    Component: int. Lastmodul ECE 0504
    Coding: 11001
    Shop #: WSC 65536
    VCID: 3B68236F295B8FC0359

    1 Fault Found:
01505 - Bulb for Blinkers; Rear Right (M8)
30-00 - Open or Short to Plus

I've tried cleaning the bulb contacts, and replacing the bulbs too, neither seems to help. To my simple mind, it appears that when the headlights are on, and the system tests for errors when you activate the ignition, the headlights seem to be blocking or interfering with the result when the turn signal is tested.

What I don't know is what to do to fix it?!

If I was you I would check where the wiring loom comes in at the top of the boot, possibly a partially broken wire in there. Although i've never had this on Audi's I have fixed lots of broken wires in golf boot lids.

Thank you. I'll try and check it out tomorrow and update if I find anything.

Thanks for the reply. Apologies if I'm being a bit dim, but when you say switch, what exactly are you referring too, and how do I check it?

Whilst I'm not a total novice (been messing with vw's and audi's for a few years now), I'm better with the mechanical and swappable parts than I am the electrics!

    thanks in advance

As your fault changes depending on the position of the light switch it could be the problem.

After reading this i would look at the earth around the rear light cluster, front and rear indicators are connected so if it was a switch fault the front indicator would come on with the rear, a bad earth would localise the fault.

Got you. Now I come to think of it, I did notice the yellow 'auto' light start flickering mid-drive a few weeks ago. Definitely worth a closer look...

I had the switch out, couldnt see any obvious fault with the parts I could take apart. The label on the side has the part no: BK7 8E0 941 531 D 01D
