    Hi Guys
wifes tdi 130 golf, sat at tickover then go to move with steering on full lock and it starts screeching, take it slightly off full lock or give it some revs and it goes. Now i was always told its not good to turn a car with the steering full lock on the stop but it hasnt always made this noise, plenty fluid, is the pump starting to struggle/on its way out

    cheers Paul

when it screeches, does the belt tensioner jump about ?
i ask because it could be the clutch pulley on the alternator seized up. use a thin pointy thing and see if you can turn the fan on the alternator, the bit through the case, in one direction and not the other.

The red arrow i assume is pointing to the tensioner, the belt seems to be jumping about at the point of the blue arrow where the belt comes off the pulley. The pully on the alternator, above the blue arrow seems ok.

    thanks for the help guys

Ive put a pointy thing through the slots at end of the arrow and the fan doesn't want to move either way

aye, pulley locked up. a new one is about 60 notes but you do need tool to change it and preferably a windy gun. if you have 3 inches room in front of the pulley yo can get the tool in, if not you have to remove the alternator.

the pulley on the alternator. its a one way clutch, so if you stop the alternator turning inside, like holding the fan, you shoulb be able to turn the pulley one way but not the other. or, as the belt stops the pulley turning, you should be able to turn the fan one way but not the other.
the tool is just past sainsbury's on the left

and looks like this. the spline goes into the actual pulley, the long thing holds the end of the shaft. with windy gun you just use the big spline bit.
