Hi am getting my 1.8t auto serviced the annual service for the first time and am getting very confused with all the different grades etc that keep poping up when I look into it. Can anyone supply me a link to the best oil recommended for my engine please.

    Many thanks

Just go to your local VAG TPS or Audi dealer and get a 5 litre bottle of Quantum Platinum 5w/40 and an oil filter, doubling up the oil changes on your particular engine (the 1.8T) is absolutely critical.

Crasher is spot on with the oil choice in my view. I do an annual oil change regime in my 1.8t and use Platinum which does the job perfectly.

My only added advice would be to buy the larger oil filter part no. 068 115 561F. This filter (for the TD versions) is larger than the one originally specced for the 1.8t and gives you larger oil capacity to enable it to stay cooler.
This larger filter is widely used in the 1.8t, along with other measures,to avoid oil sludging. If you aren't aware of this issue, then I would recommend some web searching, especially with regard to oil pickup (strainer) blockages.

Yes, without exception we use the diesel filter on the longitudinal 1.8T (we did one last week) but it is not specified for the transverse which is much less prone to this problem although it is listed as being an option although the space is rather tight, especially on cars with the secondary air injection pump.

The oil filter retails at £13.26, I don't know what the oil costs.

Yes that's fine but it is LongLife spec and so do not use it for that interval, change it every 5K miles on your car. The grade is of secondary importance with your engine, interval and filter type are paramount. The best oil in the world will not let your engine survive abuse.

I`d stick to 5w40 platinum and change it half way.Oil pick up problems usually start at around 80-90k miles but subject to individual car maintenace so worth checking to avoid the expensive repairs.I believe quantum is made by castrol but happy to be corrected.
