Indeed the filter looks like your image ...

It should be located behind the underbody trim on the drivers side ...

If you PM an external email will send you stuff that may help you ...

Check you inbox ... I'm just an owner so can't share any 1st hand experience on changing the filter but info should help you ...

Do you have VCDS? why I ask is I can see you not being able to fill the FF like I did on my A6 (C6) V6 3.0 TDi before starting it up, ...

So I'm assuming at dealers they must run the elec. tank fuel pump via VAS to fill the FF ... you maybe able to do this via 'Output test' in VCDS ...

Besides what I sent you on what they do here is a warning I found when viewing the complete fuel system ...

    Bleeding fuel system

All vehicles except those with engine code CAPA

    Caution

Running when dry causes irreparable damage to high-pressure pump. If the fuel filter, the fuel lines or the supplementary fuel pump -V393- are renewed, it is important to bleed the fuel system before the engine is started for the first time.

fuel filter is on floor underneath drivers seat underneath vehicle you have to remove underbody trim . the clips that holed the pipes can be a bit tricky . apart from that easy also you do not need to fill filter up ?self prmming . it should start 1 st push of fob ??

never got pictures but very straight forward in the end; 1. jack up car, 2 remove plastic fasteners to drop down plastic under carriage, 3 undue 2 bolts for the cage which holds the filter, 4. take of pipes from filter 5. replace filter 6. put everything back together 7. Run pumps using VCDS, 8 enjoy ( don't get diesel on drive as it eats tarmac ! ) hardest bit was stupid little plastic fastens and pulling rubber pipes of filter...
