I'm fed up with having my charge lead for my phone spread from the dash (phone cradle) down to the centre console as it gets in the way.
Does anyone know if there is any kind of USB port on the market that can be hard wired into the car? I can then stick it in the glove box and route the cables up the back of the dash so there are no wires dangling all over the place. I was going to put a 12v point in the glove box but then that would mean having the big charger sticking out, it would be a lot neater if it was just a USB output so I could do away with the converter and plug a USB lead Direct into it.

The easiest way that I know of would be to get this then cut the end that would normally go into the cigarette lighter socket you already have in the car and then wire the positive to the same feed as the existing socket, then you'd need either this or this if you wanted dual usb cables, which would go in the other end, me and my mate done this on his car, if you did do this I would strongly recommend wrapping the usb charger in the new socket with insulating tape, then you can put this anywhere you want it.

That's how I thought to do it, but I was hoping to find something More OEM looking. Something that isn't another cigarette lighter socket with an adaptor Pushed in it. I was after an actual USB socket, I think some cars have them as standard, so need to look into which ones it is. I think Ford's have them.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking.

That seems to do the job better than what I put up, where would you mount it though? In the glove box?

Yes, i'd put it in the back of the glove box so it is flush and out of the way, then I would route a USB cable up the back of the Dash and into the Pillar Trim with just enough sticking out to plug into my phone when it's in the cradle.

Only problem is that seems quite expensive. I'm sure I can get one a lot less than that. I was thinking more around the £5 mark but cannot find them on ebay which is a real surprise
