    Hi Guys

I have bought my first ever Audi 1.9 Sport TDI 2001 model, i just noticed there is no engine management light coming on when i turn the ignition on with other lights.

As this is the first time i had a TDI i don't know if this something i should be concerned?

Please share your thoughts and suggestion.

    Thanks

    Vasi

There should be some errors in engine control module. You have to use a diagnostic software to check it.

yes, the mil (malfunction indicator lamp) should come on and go off when the engine starts, coming on again if there is a fault. sometimes the bulb or circuit fails, but more often you find the bulb removed or tape or other stuff jammed in there to hide the light because a fault is present but the seller would prefer you not to know that. does the abs and esp light come on and then go off as well ? it should also fail an mot like this.

As above but eml light not part of MOT yet!
Get the vehicle on a diag machine you can check if the eng light circuit is ok either in engine management or instrument panel using function tests!
Plus their maybe some other horrors lurking if the light has been disabled!

i thought they had bought it in already, vosa just don't seem to be able to get it together. they keep announcing new things, then delaying them. all very confusing to keep on top of.

Mine doesn't come on either and I've been wondering the same thing (B6 1.9 TDI AWX 130)

Hooked it up to VCDS lite (the free version) and it didn't show any engine related errors. Plenty of other stuff, but nothing engine related. Haven't tested the light yet since I can't use that function with the free version.

Thanks guys for all your comments and advice, I did take the car to the local vw/audi specialist to get the car checked up, he did hook the car up to the diagnostics tools and found nothing everything works as should so far.

today i have dropped my car off to him to do a full service and timing belt change, so he did say he will look further in to it and see why the engine management light is not coming on.

Yeah the ABS, ESP and Glow plug light comes on and goes off after i start the engine up.

I am really hoping nothing major behind this engine management light stuff

I ran an instrument cluster test with VCDS (B6, 1.9TDI AWX 130) and the engine management light came on during the lights test, so it is working. Whether it is supposed to come on when you switch on the ignition I don't know, mine certainly doesn't. I hope this helps.
