Hi guys,

In my complete stupidity in looking down whilst driving to see a wasp on my hand yesterday, I threw my hand up and away to remove it and subsequently smashed my interior mirror off! :-(

The mirror itself is OK but the housing area is completely ruined and in all honesty I am not sure if some internal pieces are now missing. I can see that some of the teeth are missing where you clip part of the outer casing onto the windscreen and it needs replacing.

My local VW dealer have asked me to take pictures (as I can't run the car in during the week) so that they can see where the damage is and they said "we may be able to supply the individual parts rather than a whole new mirror and all associated fittings". I don't want to get my hopes up because usually you have to buy a whole product in its entirety when dealing with a main dealer.

I just wanted to ask if anyone can help shed any light as to whether I could get just the required plastic parts? A friend suggested going to the scrappy but a, I don't know how to take off the housing to start with and b, as I believe the rain sensing element is part of the mirror that would be difficult to find.

I believe the rain sensor is still attached to the windscreen along with the power lead for the auto dimming so it's effectively the outer casing between mirror and windscreen and then the bracket which is closer to where the "stalk" appears from the inside section of the roof down the windscreen (two of the three teeth on that are broken). Also that "stalk" is a bit loose so maybe just a tighten?

Apologies for the essay - any info any of you have would be very much appreciated. And if it's going to be a main dealer only job or a whole new mirror with all the housing above, any ideas on what sort of damage I am looking at? (I am likely to try and get the labour done privately and just buy the parts I have to from VW). I can put a picture on here later if that would help?

Thank you for your help :-)

Adam
