    Not relevant.

We are talking right now, here, 2013, no 200+ years ago.

We (UK) have learnt, evolved and come out the other side far better for it.

Here now in 2013, this country is atheist, those religious folk who are part of an atheist and secular society largely make no noise or issues. There is one though that last week had members running round the streets of London with machetes chopping a soldiers head off.

    Now that offends me !

I agree Jim it was several hundred years ago ... I'm not one of those that hangs onto the past but looks forward to a better future ...

But there are many many different people out there which have not ...

My Grandfather only passed away some time ago for him the memories of the partition were very real till the day he died ...

Wrong Col, very relevant IMO but then again, thats our ( British ) problem........when its us thats doing it there's a good reason or its just the way that it is, but when its someone else doing it to us, well, thats just plain wrong of course!

The Catholic /Protestant divide has been going for many centuries and is still alive and well in lots of areas. The Scottish / English divide is around 800+ years old and still exists to varying degrees

To say we have changed and now you should too, then be upset cos they don't change is kindla like, its my ball and I'm not playing anymore.

The scum that did what they did on that day though......Yes Col, they offend the H ell outta me too.

I say, just release them onto the same streets where they caused the carnage and turn a blind eye

For some of the people who these things happened to think of what it takes for them to "evolve" ...

Some of the people who this happened have not come out better ...

    No need to apologise.

This thread started as a post in another thread I started a few years back.

One thing that this split thread has done is show that we are all different and that isn't a bad thing.

I'm still angry about what happened and am worried about what is likely to happen in the future.

It was never about racism, I cannot abide that.

Thank you for you post ... all I'm trying to say is some are using the past to grind an axe ... I too am angry about the murder and worried about the fall out ...

I wouldn't be surprised if the murderers of Lee were not being fed this to further fuel them Link:- http://www.presstv.com/detail/2012/10/05/265126/kenya/

Part of the problem is that many non-Muslims don't appreciate/understand how deeply Muslims believe in their religion, and many Muslims don't appreciate the non-Muslims' lack of understanding. Likewise the Koran (not just its teachings but the physical book itself). This would explain some of the lack of 'respect'.

I suppose I would be described as an agnostic, and I think that all religions are nothing more than organised superstition. However, so long as no one tries to impose their religion on me that's fine.

And yes, I have friends of various faiths and I respect them.

Unfortunately both sides (western christian & eastern muslim) can quote atrocities that have been done against their people by the other countries/religions, and it's still happening today - we're a foreign power invading Iraq & Afghanistan (wouldn't be about oil would it?), Muslims are still carrying out terrorist attacks on the west. But unless we draw a line under previous wrongdoings, the cycle of violence will continue.

I was listening to Pat Kenny's talk show this morning, he was discussing the NCT Test (MOT) with some government type. A lot of people contacted the show and said "instead of testing the car at a test centre and getting repairs at a garage why can't we use the all in one system the UK has" And what was the reason? There's a high risk of Irish motorists trying a bribe, they wouldn't do that in the UK because people there obey the rules. I think that's a compliment to everyone in the UK!

Do you think some of the terrorist attacks are due to the countries in question not having the military power to wage war? and these groups are using religion for their "cause" ...
