Well thought I'd give the nav DVD a clean (after it "lost" a chunk of Essex a while back", but I can't get the DVD to eject. Map and nav working fine (at least locally - off to that patch of Essex leter this week so will see if it's still there!!) but when I press the eject button on the nav drive - zilch. Tried with ignition off, on, and engine running, but no go. Have I missed something (I did read the handbook and all it said was "press the button briefly) or is the drive on it's way out Gotta get a scan dome for "false alarms" anyway, so will ask the indie to check it out too. Pah!

    Raf

It's locked in, mine was in my 07 and a trip to Audi advised they'll happily eject for £10, some have reported Audi will do for free since should be done at PDI.

Had an Indy do it instead for free when I was having my brakes done a few weeks back.

Thanks guys, I've yet to get the diagnostic software (maybe later this year) but it's good to know it's "normal"! As I said, I've got to put the car into the garage to get the perimeter alarm sensors checked, so they can do it for me then. Does it have to be "unlocked" every time, or is it a once-only? Cos I might get an updated dvd too (mine 2006, so the data is a decade old now).

Using VCDS you have the option of unlocking it once only (to eject and reinsert), or turning the lock off completely so you never have the problem again.

If turning off I'd recommend you take a copy of your DVD software, just in case it's lost/stolen/misplaced

Aah, so there is a sort-of-sensible reason for it (and at £200 a pop for the disc I see what you mean). So I will burn a copy to use when I replace it, thanks!

^^^^My way of thinking is Audi thought along thse lines:

    1) We will lock the Nav DVD in the box
    2) Users will come to us to get it unlocked
    3) They will buy the updated software from us
    4) We will be quids in!

Obviously 5-7yrs ago there probs wasn't the easy access to VCDS, so they had it made, since then users can do it themselves and buy/download hooky copies.

From 08 onwards it became apparent that users were DIY, so on facelift cars software can only be upgraded at dealers.

Just my way of thinking and perhaps the cynic in me!

They should do it FOC as it should've been done at PDI.
