I had a blip on the power some time ago but it was after I'd let the tank get down to 15 miles or so from empty so I thought a bit of muck may have been sucked through from the tank. (The fuel filter was changed at the next service, 3k ago, for info)

This cleared on it's own though and was forgotten but I noticed an occasional relapse with power fluctuating, often when just cruising so it felt like a bit of a judder.

Today I hadn't got far and saw my first alarm of "Engine Fault, Workshop!" and the flashing heater coil symbol.

I do a lot of short trips which I'm aware is not great for the DPF so I've just taken it down the motorway for a couple of junctions and back. The warning / flashing coil was on within half a mile even though all felt well.

In case it's related to engine temperature I pulled over on the way back, turned off and back on again and the warning was back on again within a half mile. This time though I've acquired an engine symbol that's constantly on now.

    Any thoughts?

I've had the same thing on an 800 mile trip to France - not ideal! Had to pull over 3 times to switch off and back on, which cleared it each time. Bit worried about having to get all the way home...

What was the fault in the end? Did you record the engine codes you had?

Also the engine light is actually an emissions control light.

OK, the fault code was 05215 which indicated the Air Mass Meter. Replacing this apparently brought up some other fault codes (not recorded) on the road test indicating the Throttle Body / Flap.

From looking at youtube videos this sits nearly closed most of the time but mine was wedged wide open and didn't move. This was replaced and job done, Ł419 all in. That was a couple of weeks ago and all is well.

I kept both components and looking at the manufacturer date on them they were both original parts.

Damn coil light came on a couple of times today, no engine light as of yet. ELM327 v1.5 purchased from ebay so will throw the codes onto here once I have retrieved them.

I had faulty throttle body actuator too, it threw few similar fault codes. Apparently some plastic teeth broke and cogs were stuck open which in turn threw few faults. Engine on start up and turn off vibrated rough too.

In the end i ordered throttle body actuator on ebay at Ł159 and after part was replaced all was well.
