Would A6 C5 support programming automatic turning on of headlights when engine is on?

If so, can that be done with VCDS-Lite?

If you're talking about PRL (permanent running light) then yes it should be possible but sure if it works with Lite.

There is no relays in the lighting circuit of a C5 so I doubt this can be done. It could be hard wired. Regards Peter

Personally to me, absence of relays gives some hope that it indeed can be done..

But so far with the 'Lite' sw (unregistered) I have not succeeded to discover the controller which manages the lights. Perhaps need to invest into 'service manual' for c5..

You are missing the point. The lighting circuit is directly wired ( No Relays ) on the C5 there is no lighting controller to allow any recoding.
    Regards Peter

It can't be done in software.

This could be done in hardware with an ignition switched live activating a relay.

Or it could be done in fleshware by adding a subroutine after keystart to move the right hand 6 inches forward and 4 inches right, rotate switch 2 positions clockwise.

yet, some form of 'control' exists - for when ignition is OFF, the high and the low beam bulbs are OFF as well, no matter what the switch position is..

I think that's just because the rotary switch is fed from the ignition live.

To add, when you start the car the lights, radio, heater, etc etc also go out. There is a live feed to the ignition and when this is on it fees the lighing circuit via some fuses then finally to the lights themselves. And before you ask, the dim/main/flash stalk switches all the current again no relays involved. Regards Peter
