Hi there, I have just purchased a second hand Passat Variant 3B6 2.5 V6 TDI (BDG)

We were only supplied with one key however, and upon investigating the Keyfob we have is a HL0 1JO 959 753 AH

Having trawled the forums here and google itself it appears that HL0 1JO 959 753 AH is superseded to HL0 1JO 959 753 DA

They have the ID 48 transponder and operate on 434MHz

Reading some websites they state it has to be a DA or AH and nothing else will work.

On other sites I've read that HLO 1J0 959 753 G supersedes "HLO 1J0 959 753" which I suppose covers the whole range with ID 48 and 434MHz

I have also read some Seat forums where they have the same model keys and they have managed to use both AH and G, although they couldn't use the boot locking function of the key with the G

Has anyone used a G to replace a DA or AH on a Passat?

    Thanks,
    Daniel.

Managed to find a new AH Fob (Just the bottom part of the thing, the buttons / keyring part with electronics, so no key half or ID48 chip)

Also ordered a complete new housing with blank key without any internals.

And ordered a new ID48 chip.

Will use the new Fob part with electronics along with the blank key part and ID48 to create a new set.

The remaining new empty FOB part I will swap out with my existing one as the buttons have seen better days and its all scratched.

In parts it has cost €55,- posted to Germany.

Let's hope I can get it programmed now

you will prob get key to be accepted by car for locks etc but will need programming for immobiliser
    VW/AUDI/SEAT/SKODA

    Remote Control Programming (1997 ON)

    Procedure

    1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

    2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second
    key.

    3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn
    will sound once.

    4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding
procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.

NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure
is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the
    different remote.

For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with
a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes.

    5. Switch Ignition OFF.

    6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation.

    7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes.

    8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote
    control.

    Remote Control Erasing (1997 ON)

    Procedure

    1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

    2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second
    key.

    3. Press the remote control unlock button 5 times in 1 second intervals.
    A short horn will sound.

    4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate memory
    erase.

    5. Switch ignition OFF, all remotes are now erased.

As I understand it, the AH was the original passat part, the DA that supercedes it is said to have greater range I think?
The dealer can program the transponder to the immobiliser, but it must be a new transponder, they cannot be rewritten. I have bought them from Hickley's they also sell the other parts of the key. You may find the dealer unhelpful if you are not buying the key from them, in which case you need an auto locksmith or a vagtacho/can commander lead and software.

I have VAGCOM software & lead, I bought a key from ebay a few years ago, had it cut for my car, took it to the dealer & they said it could not be programed, not sure if they where lying. At the time no one else could program the key, can auto lock smiths now do it? In Liverpool

Vagtacho is the lead and software needed for coding the key's transponder to the immobiliser in the dash (also for mileage adjustment if you're a barber) Can commander is the newer version needed for canbus cars (generally post 2005)

Dealer codes new keys to cars so they Could code an old key BUT this would involve stripping the key down to replace the transponder which they are probably not interested in doing and prob don't stock bare transponders, or the labour involved would outweigh the cost of a new Key (blade half) An automotive locksmith should be able to do this for you. possibly the types that do remapping etc too?

remotes, blades, transponders, etc can be bought from locksmith supplies like Hickleys
